Kayla Storlid Releases “Boo Boo Song,” a Gentle Children’s Track Born From Real-Life Healing

Madison, WI — Indie singer-songwriter Kayla Storlid releases her heartfelt new children’s song, “Boo Boo Song,” a gentle, story-driven track created to help children feel safe, soothed, and brave after getting hurt. Designed as what Kayla calls “tone healing,” the song uses calm melody and simple words to help little ones regulate their emotions and recover after life’s small (and big) bumps.

Kayla’s vision is to create children’s music that is not loud, rushed, or overstimulating—music that leaves space for imagination. Her songs are meant to help children imagine and feel deeply, while helping adults remember what it was like to be little.

The story behind “Boo Boo Song” is as powerful as the song itself.

The final lyric was written at a trailhead just before Kayla went on a hike. During that hike, she came across a man in his 70s who had been badly injured and was struggling to stay conscious. Kayla stayed with him and helped walk him carefully toward where an ambulance could reach them.

To keep him awake and calm, she began singing “Boo Boo Song” out loud—for the very first time.

“The song was meant to help children heal,” Kayla says, “but in that moment, it helped a grown man hold on.”

The man made it safely to the ambulance and fully recovered. Today, he and Kayla still keep in touch—a living reminder of the day a children’s song became a lifeline before it was ever recorded.

“Boo Boo Song” reflects Kayla Storlid’s unique approach to children’s music: emotionally honest, musically gentle, and deeply human. It’s a song about comfort, connection, and the quiet power of music to help people—big and small—through hard moments.

The single is now available on all major streaming platforms.

Kayla Storlid Releases “Mamma, I Need a Moo Moo Cow,” a Playful Song Inspired by Real Cows and Real Kid Dreams

Madison, WI — Singer-songwriter Kayla Storlid has released her joyful children’s song “Mamma, I Need a Moo Moo Cow,” a story-driven track that captures one of childhood’s most universal questions: Can I have a pet?

The song was born in the most unexpected way—during a drive to the vet with her dog. Passing a farm, Storlid did what she often does: rolled down the window and mooed at the cows, just to see if they would answer back.

“They did,” she laughs. “And right after mooing at them, as I drove away, the main verse and melody came in at the same time.”

She started shaping the idea into a playful back-and-forth between a child who desperately wants a cow and a parent who has all the practical reasons why that might not be possible. The result is a catchy, story-driven song that mirrors conversations happening in families everywhere—kids dreaming big, and parents gently explaining reality.

Storlid credits the cows for the song’s existence.

“I mooed at them, and they gave me something in return,” she says. “I really believe we underestimate animals’ ability to communicate with us. If we’re willing to play with them, they’re happy to play back.”

“Mamma, I Need a Moo Moo Cow” blends playful humor, simple storytelling, and warm, acoustic-leaning production. It fits into Storlid’s growing body of work creating children’s music that lets kids imagine while helping grown-ups remember what it felt like to be little.

The song is now available on all major streaming platforms.
